Anniversary Poem

The Bed of Us

 .

Before you

 .

I was a small tree

Stunted, pot-bound

Moved from place

to place, left carelessly

in glaring sun or gloomy shade.

 .

Now

I stand tall

planted in a steady

clement climate

Established in the deep, rich

nourishing bed

of us.

 .

I breathe freely

Clear, abundant air.

I grow strong

and certain.

I stretch out

in all directions.

 .

I brush the sky.
